The State Central Library, also known as SCL, is a public library in Hyderabad, Telangana.
Originally called the Asafia Library, the library building was constructed in 1891 and holds heritage status.
Situated at Afzal Gunj on the banks of the River Musi, it is one of the city's most impressive structures.
The library boasts a collection of 500,000 books and magazines, including rare Palm-leaf manuscripts.
It serves as the apex of the state's library system.
History:
Founded in 1891, it was established thanks to the efforts of Syed Hussain Bilgrami, whose personal library formed the foundation.
The library building, supervised by architect Aziz Ali, spans an area of 72,247 square yards.
The foundation for the building was laid in January 1932 by Prince Mir Osman Ali Khan.
In 1936, the Asafia Library relocated to this new building to commemorate Nizam VII's Silver Jubilee.
Celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1941.
With the enactment of the Hyderabad Public Libraries Act in 1955, the Asafia State Library was designated as the State Central Library for the Hyderabad State.

A significant historical artifact, "Hyderabad Samachara," a monthly newspaper published by HEH Mir Osman Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VII, in 1941.
