History:
Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, constructed the Charminar in 1591.
The Charminar was built to commemorate the eradication of the plague and the beginning of the second Islamic millennium year.
The construction of Charminar began in 1589 and was completed in two years at a cost of Rs. 9 lakhs.
The Charminar is located at the intersection of a historical trade route connecting the city to international markets.
The Old City of Hyderabad was designed around Charminar as its centerpiece, with the city spread in four quadrants and chambers.
Charminar was intended to serve as a mosque and madrasa, featuring Indo-Islamic architecture with Persian elements.
